Rubber seals are specially designed for various types of bridge expansion joints. These seals use rubber’s airtightness and water expansion property to effectively prevent rainwater leakage and protect bridge expansion joints and roads from damage. The seal strips can resist tensile forces and move laterally and vertically.

Precautions for storage of bridge expansion joint seals

  1. Do not expose the bridge expansion joint seals to the sun or rain for a long time, and do not let them come into contact with chemical substances.
  2. During transportation and construction, prevent machinery and steel bars from damaging the surface of the bridge expansion joint seals.
  3. During construction, the bridge expansion joint seals are reliably fixed to avoid displacement during installation.
  4. Use special clamps to fix the bridge expansion joint seals during construction. If perforation is required, only the edge installation area of the seals can be selected, and other parts must not be damaged.
  5. After completion, promptly inspect the construction quality of the bridge expansion joint seals. If the expansion joints are leaking due to the quality of the water stop or the quality of the construction, grouting repairs should be carried out in time.

Bridge expansion joint seals replacement process

  1. During the repair and replacement process, first, use a welding gun to heat the damaged rubber seal at a high temperature to separate the rubber seal from the expansion joint steel beam.
  2. Then pull out the damaged rubber seal and clean up the garbage and debris in the expansion joint and the remaining rubber seal.
  3. Use lubricating grease to evenly apply the grooves on both sides of the steel beam, and place the prepared new rubber seal at the installation position.
  4. Insert the new rubber seal into the groove of the steel beam to complete the closure.

The function of bridge expansion joint seals

The cost of bridge expansion joint rubber seals is low, but they are very useful. The service life of rubber seals is generally 5-8 years, while the expansion joint steel can generally be used for 15-20 years. Therefore, before replacing the bridge expansion joint, the rubber seals should be replaced 3-4 times, to better protect the expansion joint and give it a longer service life. At the same time, good expansion joints can protect the bridge better and increase the service life of the bridge.
