Not all steel wires are prestressed concrect steel wires (PC wire), and prestressed steel wires are generally used in construction. PC wire is made of high-quality high-carbon steel hot-rolled wire rod through heat treatment and cold processing. Generally, it is mostly used in prestressed concrete structures or prestressed steel structures, such as large-span bridges on railway and highway, overhead crane beam, rock-soil anchoring project, multi-storey industrial buildings, stadiums, coal mines and etc.

The carbon content of this type of steel wire is 0.65%~0.85%, the sulfur and phosphorus content is less than 0.035%, and the tensile strength is generally above 1470MPa. Plain steel wire drawn from high carbon steel hot-rolled round wire rod after lead melting and quenching. Because it has not been straightened and tempered, its elongation is low. PC wire is delivered in coils with a diameter of 500~1000mm.

According to the different environment and treatment process, PC wire needs to be used in different categories, 1470mpa, 1570mpa, 1670mpa, 1770mpa, 1860mpa, and the diameter of the steel wire is from 4.0mm to 11.0mm.

PC wire can be divided into plain PC wire, spiral rib PC wire, and indented PC wire according to its surface.

1. Spiral rib PC wire

Spiral rib PC wire is a steel wire that is cold-drawn by a special wire drawing die to produce regularly spaced ribs on the surface of the steel wire along the length direction. The diameter is 4-9mm, and the standard tensile strength is 1570-1770N/mm2. Spiral ribs can increase the gripping force with concrete, and can be used for pretensioned components.

2. Indented PC wire

Indented PC wire is a steel wire with periodically changing indentations or ridges on the surface of the steel wire by cold rolling or cold drawing. The diameter is usually 5mm and 7mm, and the standard tensile strength is 1570N/mm2. The dents or embossments on the surface of the steel wire can increase the gripping force with the concrete, and can be used for pretensioned components.
